How to fix my clock back?
I have a great 1949 with Ben clock striking mechanism within hitting the side of the case. I searched everywhere for a repair guide on how to fix, I can not find elsewhere. Someone does he know that a site walk me through the whole service?
Unfortunately, there is very little user parts inside the clock, unless you have a tower and jeweler drill press and the ability to make small bearings and springs annealing. Most failures are related to springs or bearings worn or broken key, then the next most probable is a split or worn wheel (speed). At the same time, these animals are difficult and often only need a cleaning and lubrication. This you can do. The hands are friction, and can therefore be removed with care or with a machine-gunner or a small screwdriver to a jeweler and great care. You can then take back after hours and remove works (buttons and reels come off by turning in the opposite direction of their normal direction). Working outside and away from flame, stir about two tablespoons of big little olive oil with about a quart of naphtha (paint thinner and / or Coleman liquid fuel) (unless you can find pure oleic acid). Soak in the whirlpool and work it around for about 20 minutes to remove the sludge, grease and dirt. Rinse with ammonia households to clear and repeat the soaking. Again. rinse with ammonia, then rinse all in _très_ hot (not boiling) water distilled. Dry in a warm place - your oven to 150F is perfect - for several hours. You can save the naphtha solution in a hermetically closed for the next time. When clean, dry, lubricated with PTFE _everything_ high quality (Teflon-bearing) of oil available online or from a hobby shop or Radio Shack well in a pin-point lubricator. This would each level, springs, barrel (where the hands reach) and any other moving parts. A drop here, a drop until you get everything.
