Polish solid brass wood stove door?
I have a wood burning stove that has a solid brass door with glass. I think it at one time had a protected finish, but not for sure. I do know it needs polished within days when burning wood and its almost that time of year here in Ohio.
What can I use that will polish it easily and what can I use to protect it to last longer?
Hi, I am a "messingschalger" (brassbeater) and I spend too much time working with it. You can use a polish such as brasso or various grades of steel wool... start at "0" grade and work down to "000". To protect it you need to keep it away from Oxygen.. a tough task on a stove door. I don't know how hot the door gets but you might be able to use a clear lacquer from the hardware store, comes in a spray can. BUT, it might melt off. You can use a wax, and that will help some. Its ok if the wax melts just as long as it stays put.
