How much would you get paid for an ESL teacher in China?
I am planning to migrate in China and work as an ESL English teacher. Does anyone knows the bracket of the pay. I'm from the Philippines and have almost 15 years of teaching experience from grade school to high school to college. ESL teacher for grade school is what am looking for.
i got my bachelors, huludao is the place i am being recruited for grade school kids, any rate for for my teaching since this is a province please help want to have idea of how much i would get payed? thank you.
3,000 to 5,500 yuan per month (for 10 - 16 hours) in most state education institutions depending on whether you have a Bachelors degree, Masters degree or Doctors degree.
You can earn more in foreign language universities and private schools but would have to work longer hours.
Also earn more in Bejing Shanghai etc.

I am teaching in a Key National University within 150 km of Beijing and with a Bachelors degree (2.1Honours) and a TEFL certificate I am on 3,500RMB per month (12 hours per week - in essence about 10) the same as I was on last year at another university 100km away (where the max I did was 16 hours pw and the min 8 hours pw). I have been teaching in China since 2000.
At my previous university there was a very experienced lady with a Masters degree and she was on 4,000RMB pm, there was also a young American teacher straight from graduation who was on 3000RMB pm. The average (but some pay more) is 3,500 for a Bachelors degree. Some accept teachers without a degree where you could expect 3,000RMB per month. An American at our other campus with a Doctors degree was on 5,500 RMB per month. A female teacher once employed at the Law College next door was on 6,500 RMB pm and was informed she was on more than the president of the uni (4 years ago).
AND yes there is free acccommodation on top of that, but pay for your own food, but plus a travelling allowance at the end of each completed semester 1100 to 1750 rmb plus normally one way travel allowance to your original home for one semester and two-way travel allowance for one year (two semesters teaching).
As I said previously, a doctors degree will pay you more and working in a private school or uni or foreign language university will pay more. Also as I said previously you can earn more in Shanghai and Beijing (you need to because of cost of living higher) but it won't be much more in a state uni because they are providing free living (that also includes your electric - and gas if used). Telephone, except for internal calls, you pay youself - best to have a mobile (cell-phone) they are quite reasonable.
