How to stake a tree that has already been blown over?
How do you stake a tree that has already been blown over. Is the tree dead? It's still green after a month since it has happened. It is about ten feet tall with a trunk diameter of about five inches. The original stake snapped and the tree will not stay up on it's own. Is is possible to dig deep enough and close enough to restake with damaging the root? Thanks
I usually check the tree by making a small scrape near the base...if it still green there...the tree is alive. If you find no green...more than likely it's dead and the leaves are just living off what's left in the main trunk.
I would sure try to save it. A tree that big would cost a lot to replace. Gently dig around the root base to prepare the soil so you can upright the tree. Once it's straight...stake it in place and water it good. Make sure you have plenty of support without any damaging straps. It might go into shock...so some pruning might be a good thing to do...but this is a good time of year to fix your tree.
