The rise of celebrity culture inspired Andy Warhol...he was fascinated by it. Lichtenstein was influenced by popular advertising and other forms of mass-production (Warhol was also interested in this, just think of the soup cans/brillo boxes). Claes Oldenburg countered the often profound nature of art by creating his gigantic soft-sculptures of mundane objects, which also acted as a comment on consumer society.
