poem is rhymed ABABCDCD; the alternate lines are two syllable, feminine (♀); the lighter feel of these is brought up short by the masculine (♂), one syllable rhymes.
The final line of each quatrain is a is two simple iambs ( u / u /), as opposed to the more relaxed rhythm of the other lines. This change reinforces the violence of the last line, as the man is hung.
