How long would it take to disassemble a bike and put it back together again?
1. Does it really depend on one's mechanical ability?
2. Does it depend on the type of bike? (road racing, mountain style...)
3. How much longer would it take if you actually dismantled the handle bars IN ADDITION to the gears and wheels, rather than solely focusing the gears and the wheels?
I'm just talking about a bicycle.
It actually depends on ones ability to know what is needed to make things tight and to truly understand cable tentioning and stretching.This does depend on using existing cables or new.
One does not have to have a mechanical ability as a bike tech to understand steel cables and threaded barrel adjusters.
Just because I can rebuild a bike fast does not mean I am wise or even skilled.Anyone practising such a thing will indeed get faster every time as long as it is the same bike or another bike with the same geometry and dimentions.
But if you are thinking pit stop type maintanance then you must have good allen keys that are new or reground properly with a tad of bearing grease on them.This is to ensure a smooth entry and exit of such tool and an equally smooth entry of the next time.[I hope your with me on this ]
The best pit crew will have a minimum of two on it as one must do and the other must totally second guess and double check everything or else all tech work done will become moot and lame.
I am very fast but I am not proud of it because only in my haste or with a few ales do I make mistakes,usually.
FACT : It takes more time to fix a bike problem on the track then it takes to double check and/or do it right the first time.This could be the best or worst 30 seconds of your life.Do the right thing.
Do it right and know it,not do it fast and hope or think you did.
